Peekskill, New York
Located as close as a day trip from NYC, Peekskill is a cute little town located on the Hudson River in Westchester County. Not far from Bear Mountain, it serves as a more urban-country escape.

According to Wikipedia, “This community was known to be an early American industrial center, primarily for its iron plow and stove products. The Binney & Smith Company, now makers of Crayola products, started as the Peekskill Chemical Company at Annsville in 1864.” This is clearly evident when walking around. This town, like much in upstate New York has an old town feel, and this one carries a specific atmosphere of Industrial Revolution.

Peekskill, NY

A newly built walkway near the main Peekskill train station allows you to walk around overlooking the river, making it hard to believe you are so close to metropolitan New York. This leads you to some restaurants and even a local brewery. If you choose to move closer inland, you’ll find a little charmed town center giving you even more choices for food, drink, and shopping.
